Varnish on Silver Foil characters?

Hi: Tomorrow I will varnish a ganged business card job that has stamped
silver foil characters.
I am concerned about this. How will the shiny silver look with varnish?
The cosumer wants to have some scratch resistance.The foil stamper
does not recommend, says varnish won't stick. On the other hand,
the customer, who has press experience says, do it.
It doesn't matter, when the high gloss varish comes in, I'll find out any-
way.
Any comments will be appreciated.

is it possible to varnish prior to foil stamping with a suitable foilable OPV?

Is it possible to do a spot varnish, reversing out the area's that are foiled?

If you foil prior to printing you had better get a foil stampable varnish or the foil wont stick.

The varnish had better be designed to dry on foil. If you use a standard sheetfed oil based varnish it will leave a oily residue.

Good points all, knocking out the foiled characters was my first thought.

The foil stamping, at least in this case, is not computer, bang on.
There is definetly an analog factor, and our designer can't do it.

Besides, fedex didn't deliver the high gloss varnish.
