wet plates out of cleaner unit

I took some -lousy- photos of how my azura plates come out of the c85 cleaner unit, but i think you'll get the point.
Gum is new i cleaned the unit yesterday, and i clean it (major maintenance ) in a monthly basis, even though we usually expose around 500 plates per month.
Do you think i could avoid changing rollers by just replacing the sides rollers lockers and locker nests?
Or i could make any adjustements - which i can't find in the manual or self improvising -
I cut down gum circulation to the minimum i could, but plates continew comin out wet...

I'd appreciate any response!

We had the same issue on our T85 processor and it was a bad heating element on problematic drying unit.
Check your dryer section, there are two dryers on each side after gum unit, make sure the problematic side dryer is working properly.
Have you tried adjusting gum roller?

Not sure we are talking about the same thing here, ours have one drying unit and channel that spreads hot air all over the plate, and we have no gum rollers, all of them ( 3 pairs ) are transportation rollers, which should dry most of the gum before the plate reaches dryer section...

Here it is, in a better photo than mine:

Any way thanks for the quick answer!

I had a similar problem a few years back. Assuming you are getting hot air from the fans, take a look at the rollers. I suspect they are not giving a proper, even squeegee effect. If the rollers are cupped unevenly it won't apply even pressure. You can try swapping the roller positions. If that doesn't help, there are springs under the ends of the bottom rollers that push it up against the top ones. You can try shimming the springs with some cardboard so they push up a little more. I think I wound up getting new springs which ultimately helped.

Sorry I can't remember more! I did get some helpful direction from Agfa at the time.

Thanks!

This is my problem, that the rollers don't squeeze with enough pressure, but more than this the pressure is uneven, so the middle of the plate is - a lot - more wet than the edges.

I switched roller positions, only to make things worst!

Then i tried putting small pieces of plate between the roller edge and the spring nest without any results.

Lets hope that changing the springs will make things better, but the way i see it my rollers have developed a kind of curly form, not noticeable with the eye, only when you slide your hand on them and you must be really careful to notice it.

I'll give the spring solution a try!

Thanks again!

In your case, solution is roller replacement (original rollers and more expensive) or putting new gum layer on existing rollers (procedure similar to rollers in offset printing machines). That would increase the pressure between two rollers making plate dryer when entering the dryer unit. I worked with c95 which has rollers with fixed positions (springs and adjusting mechanism only on brushes) and only solution was as to redo the rollers or buy new ones.

I thought so, had a faint hope that might do with just replacing springs...

( come to think of it, till pressmen flip out with the condition of the plates we won't even replacing springs so why bother asking in the first place? ... )

Gentlemen,

ALL litho plates the most effective method of "Desensitizing" the plate, the GUM needs to be Dried down to a thin Insoluble Film

We must change - at least- the middle rollers set of cylinders.

Could someone indicate me anyone selling glunz n jensen parts in central europe, preferably?
I asked a quote from bob webers site, but i believe custom and shipping rates will be high sending a set of rollers from US to Greece...

Thanks in advance

AFAIK G&J is based in Denmark, so it should not be a problem for you.

I don't think they sell parts straight to customers and i'd like to bypass the local dealer if this could be possible!

Thanks anyway!

Hi, ..we had the same problem with the gum squeegee rollers not squeezing the gum off due to roller wear and plates exiting wet, we just took the white runners off and the black cogs off and packed the springs underneath both ends 1-2mm, ..the rollers now squeeze together evenly again without the white runners or cogs, as it was the black cogs stopping the rollers squeezing together after the rollers were worn so much but not any wear on the cogs (could even see light through the pinched together rollers with them squeezed by hand together on a light box, black cogs stopping them squeeze together!), the last exit rollers dont have cogs so we figured to try it with the gum set and see if they still turn ok once the springs were packed..and they do, plates are now coming out perfectly clean. :) :) ... + cheaper than a set of rollers.
