What to do with Waste Ink?

We have accumulated a lot of waste ink over the years and we also have some old bags of Sericol KO inks after changing to KI inks. What the heck do I do with the old ink? We want to be environmentally conscious when getting rid of the waste inks.

Does anyone one know who to call?

Thanks,

Chris

Just went through this and called Saftey Kleen and had it removed.
Any inkjet inks that contain solvents or oils can be reclaimed at the local oil change shop - just be sure to bring the MSDS sheet to prove to them it is oil based.

I've just joined this forum looking having the same question about the ink.
Thanks for your reply! ;)

We use Safety Kleen also. Be prepared though.....it's not cheap.

If they give you drums to put your old ink in you'll want to make sure they're completely full because you pay by the drum.

One of our local customers sends their waste ink off to a company that re-processes it into black ink and returns it to them. The cost is lower than buying new black ink even after shipping costs, plus you have the environmental benefits of recycling it instead of disposing of it.

I'll ask them for some details if they don't mind sharing, and post back soon.

UPDATE: the customer I spoke about is actually still in the testing/evaluation stage of recycling and reusing their inks. However, in the meantime I've found this, which although outdated might still be useful: http://www.pneac.org/sheets/pdfs/InkRecycleS2_V2.pdf
