Windows 11

Thanks but I wasn't asking about Windows 10, I was asking about 11. As for me still using 7. It's always worked well for me and if it ain't busted . . .
That's the thing - Windows 7 has been "busted" in a lot of critical ways that are invisible to the average user until a bad actor takes advantage of them and then it's too late for you. Windows 10 addressed a lot of those issues. Will Windows 11 address even more, or will it take the path of Windows 8? We'll have to see.

It took me a while for the shortcuts and layout of windows 8 to become second nature. Hated it at first.

Was quite annoyed when Windows 10 then changed it all again.

But I have to say, Windows 10 is rock solid. Hardly have to think about it. It just works and with an SSD is booted in seconds.

Who remembers the blue screen of death lol.

Also while I'm still on this page I'll throw this at you all. I'm a younger guy, a "millenial" if you will. One problem that "boomers" always seem to have is to ignore the warnings of people that understand technology. I think this street goes both ways (advice from boomers to millenials about life etc.), but with technology, problems can get severe and EXTREMELY expensive in a short amount of time. It is important to zoom out and to think critically about show-stoppers in your technology chain, and how to proactively manage risk. Even for a 10 person company this is important. Are you guys backing up your data? Are you backing it up monthly? bi-monthly? weekly? daily? Is that back up process automated in case the "tech person" at your company decides to quit? Boomers often never think of the worst possible scenario for some of their most valuable assets that exist in technology.

Oh you're backing up your client files daily? Great. What about the settings to each of your production machines? The imposition profiles? How often are those backed up and where are they stored? In case of an emergency or power outage that causes those machines to lose that data, how long will it take you to get your settings installed back on the machine?

What happens if all of your data is in the building and your business gets set on fire? Will you ever be able to recover your data or is it all stored off site? How often are you uploading that data?

And for some reason, a goddamned boomer has the gall to say "I'll just crowdfund the bitcoin". No, you won't, and you're business will be financially time-torched by the scammers. But hey, I'm just some idiot millenial that has no concept of time.

The best reply to any sort of proactive thinking is "We don't have the money for that".

It was only $700 for an automated file backup system.

Even more likely than a fire: a ransomware infection that starts at one computer and spreads laterally across the network to every machine it can talk to and every thing plugged into those machines. Your Time Machine backup won't do you any help if it gets encrypted too because it was plugged into the Mac when it got hit.

I build my own PCs and consider myself a power user and never understood the hate for Win10. Win8 was a pile of crap, but 10 was better than 7 in every way. Don't be a grumpy old man, you'll acclimate to it in like a week.
Please.. I use 10.. I started with Win 3.1.. (DOS 5 actually) Built many machines over the years. Win 7 is BETTER than 10, if not safer. I really hate it when things are changed - to make me safer - as if. All they did was make it harder to mod, and STUPID. The apps that are pushed on you are the worst pile of doo-doo I've seen. Looks like a 8 year olds work. The folders open stacked one on the other (No memory). Have to bring in a special program to fix that. And the HORRENDUS start menu. UGHHhh. Disgusts me.. Had to fix that too,. I don't care how efficient it is in resources or storage etc. The newer powerful hardware and giant SSDs overrides that and makes it a non-issue. Acclimate? The more I used it the angrier I got, till I worked out to make it behave.

Combining folders: Right click the taskbar > taskbar settings > combine taskbar buttons > never. Not sure why you think you need a special program for it.

Almost every single annoyance you have is easily disabled by right clicking on the taskbar and disabling it. I'll agree that 90% of those features shouldn't be enabled in the first place, but to hate an entire OS for 30 seconds of effort makes you look like a crybaby.

" Right click the taskbar > taskbar settings > combine taskbar buttons > never"
This have zero to do with where the folders open on the desktop. No idea how you thought I was referring to taskbar. Open any folder.. or Program/App, then open something else.. The 2nd item opens right on top of the 1st item, just slightly offset. Working between 2 or more folders means have to pull apart, shift and bump windows every single time. And the start menu.. You mean to say I can have it the win 7 way by changing a setting in the taskbar??? Please explain. I use ShellFolderFix to have my windows /apps/folders open in the same place as the last time I opened them. And Classic shell to provide actual functionality in the Start menu and folder options without having to hunt all over for it. Something as simple as Go UP one level.. Hey.. If you're happy with 10 the way it is.. then more power to you. I for one, am definitely very unhappy with it.
And the stupid apps that keep respawning, like it's a frickin game.. WOW..
