Windows fiery driver says door is open..

Scratching my head a bit here

E-47 fiery on a Ricoh c5310.

No issues reported on the machine or in command workstation. Can use it completely as normal via command workstation on a windows 10 PC.

The fiery printer driver on the same machine though reports that the machine has a door open and cannot print.

Not a huge issue as I only really use the driver if printing stuff out of applications without wanting to convert to pdf, but it's a bit odd.

Any ideas?

Fiery has really weird issues on Windows PCs where devices will randomly come up as offline. I think its a bad/bogus SNMP stack being relayed from the printer through the fiery, and because its bogus it never never gives the "all clear" to come back to online? I've never gotten an explanation from Xerox, so I have to do my own deductions. Xerox's suggestion is just to re-install the Fiery server(s), on what were two brand new controllers right out of the box **eyeroll**

One of three solutions I've used, usually if you find one that works well it works every time.
1. Reboot the Printer & Fiery as a combo
2. Reboot the workstation
3. Restart the Windows Printer Spooler (try this one first):
To restart the Print Spooler service in Windows, you can use either the Services console or the Command Prompt. To use the Services console, search for "services", find the Print Spooler service, and then select "Restart". Alternatively, you can use the Command Prompt by typing "net stop spooler" to stop the service and then "net start spooler" to restart it.
Using the Services Console:

Open Services: Search for "services" in the Windows search bar and open the Services application.

Find Print Spooler: Scroll through the list of services and locate "Print Spooler".
Restart the Service: Right-click on "Print Spooler" and select "Restart".

Using the Command Prompt:

Open Command Prompt: Search for "cmd" in the Windows search bar, right-click on "Command Prompt", and select "Run as administrator".

Stop the Service: Type net stop spooler and press Enter.
Start the Service: Type net start spooler and press Enter.

Thanks. I'll give those a try.

I've also just noticed that total flow prep thinks it's offline as well

I think the *only* services that doesn't rely on SNMP is Fiery (command workstation, hot folders, etc) itself. SNMP is vendor agnostic, so most software use SNMP for status and keep-alive connectivity.

Very helpful thank you

Basically the solution to every computer/printer problem! :ROFLMAO:

yeah.. basically... lol

what makes no sense is how often it will happen... you will go months and then suddenly, almost daily, one or more of your machines will just come up "offline". Then you'll go back to months without the issue.

Remove the print driver and reinstall it using a TCP/IP port and the correct PS driver for that specific Fiery. Configure the port as LPR, lpr byte count checked, SNMP unchecked, queue = either print or hold. Go to the tab that shows the printer accessories, uncheck Two-Way Communication, recheck it and hit Apply. You should be good to go after that.
