Working with Illustrator files and prepress workflow

Hi All

We recieve alot of art done completely in Illustrator. We use to save it as an EPS and place it into Quark or Indsign for proper page trim and separating the art into multiple pages. Then create postscript for the prepress workflow.

Now we have simplified the steps by creating a PDF directly from illustrator as the above was becoming to teadious.

Anyone else doing similar or another solution?

We Save As from Illustrator CS3 to PDF for imposition, and have been
for some time. Almost all of our press files are imposed PDF files.

Sounds to me like you need to educate your clients in using InDesign to create multiple page files. I don't see any advantage to using Illustrator over InDesign when the two interfaces are so similar.

Why? They are perfectly happy working with there files the way they are and there is nothing wrong with what they are doing. Just we need to make some changes at our end to be more efficient with what they are doing. Like you mentioned if there is no advantage then why ask them to change?
