How? When at GraphExpo, their demo prints looked worse than a desktop inkjet.
For those that have seen samples from Kodak Stream inkjet which uses optimized paper, or the HP web press which puts down it's own selective bonding agent (coating) both these machines blow away the other inkjets be it Kodak Versamark, Screen Jet520, or Oce JetStream. It's all about optimization of the stock. I've ran samples on 20# bond and 24# optimized stock and they look completely different on the Riso. I'm not trying to say you can get offset or toner digital quality but it does get a lot better if the ink doesn't dive into the stock.
I have an annual meeting with them in January and will be asking for these types of samples to understand just how good we can get it and then determine what the price penalty on the stock is to see if it truly makes since.
