Xante Symphony RIP streaky K plate

Hi,

We've run a Xante Symphony RIP 3.0 for a year with great results. On the last two 4C jobs the black plate is exhibiting "streaks" in the dot pattern, the other 3 plates are fine.

Currently we take customer supplied pdf and.eps files and impose them in Indesign to our pre set template and then export a PDF from Indesign to feed the Xante RIP. It's always worked well from day one.

The streaking hppened again today on a job with a large 4C solid so we are looking for clues as to what might cause the issue. We did have to open the supplied eps file to remove a dieline layer but saved it back to an eps and placed it as usual. We had this show up on a previous job using a supplied PDF and we did not have to modify that file at all. . .

Any ideas as to what might be the issue?

It doesn't sound like a RIP issue... What imaging device are you using?
I know the RipIT/Xante systems inside and out. If I can't help you I have sources that can.

One way to determine if the problem is in the platesetter or the processor is to image a plate normally but run it through the processor at a 90 degree turn. If the anomolly is in the same position the problem on the plate the problem is in the in the platesetter. If the anomally moves to the turn of the plate the problem is definitely in the processor.
My big question though is, is why just the black plate? I have seen one instance in the last 10 years that the rip actually caused an anomoly on a single plate without effecting the other seps. Just to be on the safe side, make sure you have the latest RIP build from Xante.
If you would give me a call in anycase I would like to talk to you about your experience with the Symphony RIP. I've been trying to convince Xante (and before that... RipIT) of the value of their RIP in the higher level applications like yours.

Tech came in a gave the platesetter a though cleaning and calibrating. Seems to be fine now. We will be running jobs all weekend so it will be a good test.
