Xerox - Light printing at front and rear of sheet

We recently purchased a Xerox 700 in hopes of getting away from some of the issues of our Xerox 250. One thing that always annoyed me was the print quality on 13x19 stock on the outer edges. For instance if I'm trying to print a 12x18, full bleed print on 13x19 stock the quality on the print on the two edges (operator and non-operator sides) both have light coverage. It looks like a gradient but is supposed to be a solid. For instance a nice bright red goes from Red to orange as it approaches the edge of the sheet.

This was a problem on our old 250 and apparently has become a problem on this 700 as well. I don't think we're pushing the margins, there is at least 1/2" of unprinted space all around the image area. Has anyone else had this problem and discovered a solution?

I've noticed this problem on every Xerox machine I've had the dubious pleasure of operating (240, 260 & 700). Every tech I've talked to says it's a design problem and one that no-one has found a solution to. That said, if it's particularly bad it can be caused by (in order of easiness to check/fix):

• Magenta/Yellow drum wear
• Magenta/Yellow dev tank wear
• Magenta & Yellow ROS window dirty on outside
• Magenta & Yellow ROS dirty on inside (clouding from cyan toner sometimes causes this over time, especially if a wee hole hasn't been sealed near where the ROS units live)

All these things work together as well, so you may find only by replacing the drums, replacing the devs and the MY ROS unit that it gets a good bit better. It'll get worse over time though - I just accept it these days and try to work around it.

Agreed. We have the same problem on our DC5252. It gets worse as the drums get older, but on the whole we just have to put up with it. I do find it is worse on our DC5252 than our DC250.

on the Xerox 700, ask your tech about the "riesling" patch. it might help.

somehow it changes the fusing process.

I've seen a couple of cases where customers printing on 13x19 where getting light or washed out colors on the inboard/outboard edges. for some reason, this patch fixed that even though I think it was not designed for that. it might be worth trying. I think your X700 will need to be at a specific software level and then the tech can turn it on/off.

Hmm, interesting. Recently we were getting fusing problems on light stock and the tech adjusted the pressure set screws on the fuser - worked a treat and much better after that. Forget to check if it had an effect on colours, more concerned about the toner not rubbing off at the time.

Next time the engineer's in, I'll have to ask about that patch.
