Technically, it's called a "contrail" (condensation trail). Created by water vapor from the exhaust of aircraft when flying above 26,000 ft with air temp at -40c or below. UNLESS, you subscribe to the "chemtrail" conspiracy theory wherein goverments have been releasing chemicals into the atmosphere for years to control us.

Sometimes I like to look at old photos of busy streets from 100+ years ago just to look at the sea of people and realize that... every single person in those photos is dead. It reassures me that the problems we think matter today probably don't in the long run.
