Memjet Ink Issues

We have three Trojan T2C Memjet printers and back around May we started having all kinds of issues with what they are calling a crystalline ink contamination issue from the ink manufacturer. They developed some filters to add to each of the color channels but the longevity of the heads are no longer there and we continue to have many quality issues. Is anyone else experiencing these type of issues with Memjet devices and have you successfully worked around them? Thanks!

We bought our first Trojan T2C in 2020. The machine was filled with the so called new and better inks, which appeared to be contaminated just as yours. Straight from the factory. We had a lot of quality issues - white lines, scratches etc. Since the machine was under warranty, they replaced two printheads and one head cleaning unit. After 6 months of try-and-error efforts the local dealership replaced and changed the whole ink supply system - printhead, reservoirs, ink pipes, etc. with the old and not so good, but very reliable inks. And everything is running perfect till now. I'm afraid that filters only won't help.

We are in the same boat, filters and new ink are not fixing the issue. The issue is slighly better, but the heads burnt out quickly and we are burning through ink at alarming rates due to the increased pressure necessary to push ink through the filters. Unsure whether to move back to the old ink or wait for the new and improved filters. Been going on for almost a year now. However, Trojan has been awesome about it, sending out technicians, etc.

The ink manufacturer tried to improve the ink formula, but it's clear that something went in wrong direction, Yes, the new inks are much more water resistant, but our clients need high quality color labels, not only text.

Yes! And the funny thing is that we used the new inks for almost a year and half with no issues then last May/June the crystalline contamination happened and here we are.

Wow, I thought that the whole new series is damaged. It seems that it's a particular batch, made around the beginning of 2020. Just like COVID...

No, these inks dry faster. To prevent print head damage more ink is used during maintenance compared to first gen ink.

The new ink type is prone to crystallize over time, no matter which batch it is from. Filters do block the crystals, but if your machine was equipped with filters in later stage, then ink system needed cleaning or replacement prior installation of the filters.

You were right, filters and flush. We were told that the ink was changed to meet European standards, which required installation of a new set of permanent filters and complete flush. Since they did this, the issues are completely gone.

When did they do the flush and filters? We had a total replacement of everything last year like others have here. What you stated is what i was told would happen in June. We are still waiting and struggling.
Thanks

We also had a total replacement last year, but it did not help. The new hardware filtering system that they installed seems to have resolves the issues on our machines. We are now pushing ink through the system like we used to, without constant streaking and related issues. We were initially told June as well, ended up getting service mid-July. The filters do work, made a huge difference.

Thank you for the quick reply. This really helps me out. Have a great day.
