Hi everyone,
I have an old ctp Agfa Galileo VS (with eco3 N95-VCF plates)

Im thinking to upgrade between:
Fujifilm Luxel T-S1 (With Fujifilm Superia ZX plates)
ECO3 Avalon C8 - 30E (With ECO3 Eclipse pro plates)

The only reason is to lower the cost of the plates

What is your opinion about these machines ?
Should i check for something else ?

Thank you

I have an older AvalonN8-90S and it has been fantastic. If the C8 is anything like the N8, you’ll like it! Before getting the N8, we also had a Galileo. I had way more service calls on the Galileo compared to the Avalon.

Best regards,
pd

They appear to be totally different machines, N8 was made by Screen, C8 looks to a be Cron or an Amsky, forget which one these use now

Didn’t Agfa use to make an Avalon? I thought it was the larger version of the Galileo.

Depending on your expected usage, you might also give Kodak a look. Their Magnus machines are pretty amazing.

CtPs can use various different brands of plates so if that’s your main/only reason for ‘upgrading’, I would keep that in mind.

I looked for Kodak but in my region the service is poor.
That's why im between eco3 and fuji they have a good support.

But im not sure for which machine i should go

Agfa did produce an (Agfa-designed and built I believe) Avalon. They later contracted with Screen to produce the AvalonN-XXX series. I’m not sure if it was considered to be a larger version of the Galileo though.

If the Avalon C series is made by someone other than Screen, this is the first I have heard that (to be fair though, I have never researched the C series).

So i shouldn't think about c8 ?
I don't think that i should invest in amsky ctp
To be honest I have no idea, just wanted to put it out that it is a very different machine to the screen based machines. You don't say where about in the world you are, so would check as would say with any type of machine what kind of service you will have. in your region

To be honest, first i heard of them was in this thread, so was curious and googled it and the Picture are not of any Screen based machine. I had heard they were going down this route, but in my region thought it was for the 4 up market only.

For sure the screen based machines were good solid work horses with good parts availability and engineer resources in most countries

We do have a Kodak Achieve that's in perfect condition. It does not have an auto loader though. Last PM we had the tech asked if we ever use it...he couldn't believe the condition but if you're not interested in Kodak that's okay, just thought I'd mention it. We got bought out and then the new owner got rid of the printing press so it's available. Has been using Kodak Sonora plates.

C8 is rebranded Cron. I would stay away from that.
Also stay away from Kodak and Heidelberg machines - sick expensive support.
Ask yourself where is closest service engineer and spare parts warehouse.
Than get machine with best support.

Why stay away from ECO3 Avalon C8 (cron) ?
Not good machine ? Do you have bad experience with this machine ?
