    Where to Ask?

I LOL'd because I have a bachelor's degree in art and took concentrations in scupture and graphic design...a little too close for comfort! ...Then I worked in a print shop for 12 years and got the rest of my education. The truly ironic part is that the print shop specialized in POP displays...

    free unlimited cloud storage service?

My friend has been using Carbonite for years and swears by it (small catering business owner, takes hundreds of photos a month). $60/year, or the price of dinner out. A great deal.

    Management Zen

2014-08: Unfortunately, I just got the first Illustrator file I couldn't open in CS 6, so assuming it wasn't a corrupt file, the writing is on the wall for all pre-CC Adobe apps.

    Illustrator info palette

I use the "Transform" palette's numbers, since they're accurate, handy and can be manipulated, all in one place.

    The New Hire

$24K for a prepress operator? I got hired for 20K back in 1997. Our economy is well and truly f**ked.

Ethanol suitable as substitute for Isopropyl?

Per this site, Ethanol vs. Isopropyl Alcohol to Disinfect | eHow the structure and function of the two is very similar and for industrial use ethanol should work as well. I'd be concerned about that 4% water causing corrosion or condensing on surfaces. How much water was in the isopropanol?

    Experts..is this even possible??

Sorry, no personal experience, it was just a brainstorm. But a cursory Google search turned up a lot of manufacturers. Here's a typical one: Heatshrink.com : Custom Printing

    Experts..is this even possible??

Perhaps heatshrink tubing would work here? Perhaps heatshrink tubing would work here? Might be easier to print a design on continuous heatshrink tubing and then heat shrink it down to a friction fit onto the aglet.

Adobe Creative Suite 6 and Creative Cloud

Lousy value Lousy value I agree, we bought into CS4 Design Standard in 2008 ($800/seat for the upgrade from single apps) and I had no need for 5 or 5.5. We'll probably buy CS6 in 2012 to preserve upgrade pricing, but the subscription plan sucks at $600 a year every year. This is a real step up...

    Advise on Pocket Folder

two close scores (1/16" apart) will result in two 90-degree folds and very little or no cracking.

    Hand scoring solution

a little water goes a long way a little water goes a long way I recently had to score a small run of holiday cards printed on a color copier onto 90# uncoated stock. I had good results using a roller-ball gel ink pen that I emptied and filled with water. The roller ball made a nice accurate...

downsampling pdf in Indesign & Illustrator does nothing?

While off on this tangent, can anyone tell me why PDFs saved out of Illustrator and reopened in Illustrator are often cut into bands?

downsampling pdf in Indesign & Illustrator does nothing?

I tend to agree with Lukas that a large file size suggests that the original poster's files aren't all vector but have Illustrator-created raster effects pushing up the file size. Compression won't affect vector art, but since it would take thousands of vector-defined objects to equal the...

downsampling pdf in Indesign & Illustrator does nothing?

There's an obscure setting in Illustrator to increase the 'flatness' of curved lines. It allows the imagesetter to use a coarser setting when deciding which imagesetter pixels are inside a boundary vs. outside. It can make the difference between imaging smoothly or choking the processor (of...

    Bit depth vs gamut

MrRWright, that's a better description of gamut (range of colors available) than bit depth (ability to draw more shades of a color)
