    Digital Copier/Press Facts v Fiction

I'd like to echo some sentiments above. The KM6501 sounds like a solid pick and if I were in your position that's the machine I'd trial. I've also had major issues with our LCT (on a KM6500). Nowadays I only use it for non-vital-registration light stocks (no-bleed flyers etc). Two other things...

    Press Trouble Shooting

I've sent quite a few joggers/floor helps off to the press manager in search of the elusive paper stretcher. That thing pays for itself! =) Also, little known fact: Ink gets hot when you mix it. Here, put your hand near it to see!

Protecting Brokers Client from Print Vendor

    1. What are you trying to protect? 2. It's all reputation and relationships. Anyone in the trade printing world "can" screw over other printers. But do that enough and they'll be out of business right quick. Even the rumor of such practices has hurt trade printers from time to time.

That's the power of the intergoogles!

    Ghosting---help

Without seeing it in person, it certainly sounds like simply too much ink. See how a test run looks with lower densities? There's definitely something amiss if you're getting through-sheet transfer on a gloss!

    UV coating over Digital?

Oil fuser machines require a different coating material than the high-temp toner counterparts. Be sure to use the one formulated to the substrate. I'm not sold on the additional lamp idea =) If anything that might over-cure it, no? For the record we're using TEC coating 2709 for our KM 6500...

    Ghosting---help

Unit to unit or transfer through the sheet? I'm assuming you have reduced your ink density on the heavy coverage side? If it's transferring through the sheet, I'd start with how much ink is being laid down. I had similar problems on a 5-unit King Press back in the day. Also check your...

    UV coating over Digital?

TecLighting has a UV mix that coats many digital copier outputs. It's what I use for my KM6500 sheets.

Physical Storage of Digital Print Hard Copies (Proof Management)

I have to agree with the uniform and flat storage. I do the same with my poster jobs (have over 300) and once I stopped rolling-and-tubing them, filing and storage got a lot easier (and smaller!). I use Uline stay-flats for my posters but if your proofs are larger you may have to make your own...

    What is 80# & 100# paper?

For text/writing weights maybe. 220-280gsm for 80# cover isn't unheard of, depending on the type of paper (coated, C1S, smooth, etc).

Starting a New Digital Printing Business

Caution: Printing may have long-term side effects to the size of your debt. It is very, very easy to get in way over your head in the printing industry. Best intentions will not pay your lease and a lease on a good digital press (or production copier) can easily out-scale your mortgages, car...

Effect of sunlight on natural shade paper

Sunlight will alter the reflective color of just about any unprotected paper substrate if you let it sit there long enough. Don't leave your paper out! If this is for an outdoor application, there are far better substrates than paper for long-term outdoor banners, signage, etc. Choose the right...

11x17 Transparencies on the Canon 6010

I've had the same issues when using any driver setting that indicated non-paper substrates. Have you tried just telling it to use the correct GSM paper? Basically tricking the machine into thinking it's just a thick cover sheet. You may have to tweak the image quality related settings to avoid...

Tec Lighting UV coater and venting question

What coating are you using? We have a small TEC machine with their 2709 coating for our production copier outputs and have had absolutely no such effects even with minimal venting. Check the coating bucket for an MSDS maybe? What you describe is absolutely not acceptable. If it were me, I would...

    junior pre-press operator_why?

On the other hand you have legions of "technical school" graduates who just spent big money and 2 years making pretty layouts but wonder why their RGB, multi-transparancy layouts can't print right. I mean, they print out on their home inkjet no problem! Personally, I prefer the more apprentice...

    How to Learn Printing?

The term "printing" encompasses any number of different processes, purposes and an enormous variety of skills. What do you want to learn how to print? Paper, fabric, signs, billboards, beverage coasters, fine art prints, magazines, mouse pads, automotive sales financial disclosures, novelty...

    Going Backward? [slight rant]

Thanks for the link. Damn their forums are slow-loading for me. Their printing forum has a different purpose than this one it seems. A different point of view. I doubt I'll see many komori operators over there =) Cheers!

    Going Backward? [slight rant]

I'd be very interested to see other forum discussions on this topic if you don't mind sharing =) Perhaps it's time that the professionals started demanding some minimal technical education from our source institutions. Their students don't know enough to understand what they're missing out on...
