How often do you calibrate your CIP3 data?

We purchased an optimization program through Heidelberg. If we make a lot of manual changes to the pre inking software it allows us to optimize changing the curves. We typically will do this a couple of times then we are right on the money colorwise after that.

    QM 46/2 rollers

I will have to check with my boss. This is a real issue now. Printing solids from gripper to tail are 20 density points different in some areas and 5 density points in other areas. I will PM you and maybe you can give me a ball park price to re do unit 1

    QM 46/2 rollers

I had this same issue with botcher. The problem is the one that closest fits my press the adjustment screws are in the wrong position. I have a syntac roller box that I believe was the correct roller. I may just see if I can get that one re surfaced then get new form rollers.

    QM 46/2 rollers

Serial number is 960030. Dont really want to do a core. Would like complete water form rollers. Tearing these rollers apart are a big pain

    QM 46/2 rollers

Yes it is one of the earlier Quick masters I will try and remember to get the serial number. The angle of the form roller set screws on unit 1 were the main issue.

    QM 46/2 rollers

Anybody have numbers for rollers for this press. I had bottcher do them for me 5 years ago and the ink forms were fine but they do not sell the correct water forms. They had to sell me the outer roller and I had to tear apart my old cores and use the internal parts and it was not pretty. This...

    QM46/2 Pile height inconsistant

There is a pin on the gear side of the press that is worn. Turning this pin 180 degrees is the short term solution. I am ordering the pin to correct the problem. This pin is causing the pile to not come to the correct pile height to allow the press to go into production mode.

    Pantone ink color shifting

Alkalinity burn is the name given to the effect on inks that have certain pigments. These pigments have a reaction to the coating material and will react in different ways. The previous poster will be able to give you the scientific name and reasons my experience will give you an easier to...

    Quickmaster 46-2 service

An impression cylinder is like a transmission going out on your car. It is not worth fixing. It is time to buy a new press, a used press or something on this line. The only time an impression cylinder going bad is a good thing is during the warranty. Keep an eye on ebay and maybe bid on a...

    Using LAB with a densotometer

thanks all for the replies. I emailed my boss and prepres supervisor about my concerns and added this thread to the email and was able to get this rectified. I think the G7 people are so focused on G7 that they dont look at the rest of the picture. My boss had a meeting with the G7 trainers...

    blanket washer cloth rewind

$15 / roll. I can see this for unit 1 on a 5 color press. Mostly use it for depowder.

    Using LAB with a densotometer

We are going through G7 training. The trainers Xrite 528 has the Delta E settings under color instead of match and want to set ours the same way. By doing this we will not have actual LAB values but delta E values for L, A and B. Their thinking is nobody in North America uses LAB. I am...

Interesting books / resources about offset printing?

A really good book to buy is a Pocket Pal. It covers a lot in a small amount of words

Printmaster 46-2 Water leaking from water tray

large cap for unit one (unit over delivery) Small cap for unit 2 (over feeder) Metal water tray is in unit 2. Also try changing water bottles and see it the same thing happens. Could be a leak in the bottle but that is less likely then the cap leaking. Be prepared to pay a hefty amount for...

Trouble feeding curled paper when backing up sheets

This is quite common with lighter weight coated and matte stocks. Our SM52 has a sheet decurler but that seldom fixes the problem. Only thing I can think to help is always run the curl up side first on text weights. If you run curl down first you will amplify the problem. For this reason we...

    QM46/2 with Astro 1200

After watching my press run with the feeder cover off so I can see the air tank I am worried that if the feeder handle does not lock in that the feeder board will come up while the envelope feeder is attached and could cause some serious damage. I am thinking if I install a switch in parallel...

    QM46/2 with Astro 1200

in this video it shows it being used on a quick master. Looks like it is straight and not tilted...

    QM46/2 with Astro 1200

We may be getting an older Astro for our Quick master. I am curious what you do to the side guides on the press. I am guessing you have to open them all the way on the feeder to fit the feeder but then the delivery joggers are all the way out. Is there a trick to this or is the way to Jury Rig...

    Pantone "Plus" Color Guides

We got our new books a week ago and I am not impressed. Maybe they should have made a press operator and a designer version. The other thing I dont like is they removed the forumla for the inks and only left the percentages. Working with a scale that deals in lb and oz going to percentages is...

    Ink tack

Reducing tack will create dot gain. If you reduce ink you will have trouble keeping areas over 80% open. I use reducers on solids. As mentioned higher tack is better for printing sharper screens and in my opinion that includes hybrids or FM. If you do have your ink tacked and it is only one...
