Thanks Jason, But wouldn't opening the keys on non-image areas result in ink piling on the rollers and then when the keys shut for the next job, this ink would theoretically flood back to the duct? Bear in mind that we never had this problem with our other ink set but we cannot use that one...

LOL, printing is a whole world of pain, or at least it can be, that's what makes it interesting.

This is my main concern, where is the magenta and cyan ink coming from if there is no image on the plates and no paper in that area? There is a transport somewhere in the system but i can't figure out what yet. I can see that a high-tack yellow could drag back the magenta and cyan when running...

The ink film would be nearly zero in the closed areas, we never run 100% closed as there is always a colour bar on the sheet and indeed the ducts can not be set to 100% closure.

But a 50:50 mix would surely be nearly transparent? It would wreck our ISO ability and require a recalibration on that colour as well. I am not in a position to do a non-job test at present but will bear this idea in mind. Could you elaborate your idea with a theory or reason please.

2 days work a month won't help, I have found in the past that the rollers dry out if not used regularly. We used to apply run-up paste and wash up at least once a week if the press was on intermittent use.

Yes kcmy was the order, but it was doing it in the non-sheet area of the job - at each end of the duct on small format work.

It will be the non image areas, small-format suffered badly at each end of the duct.

Ok, moving on, what can cause this problem... Purple job, high level of magenta & cyan, minimal yellow, no black. Suffered serious yellow contamination resulting in wash up and fresh ink in duct after the run. Any ideas?

The setup - B3 Waterless Offset machine. Can anyone tell me why I should not alter my ink order from K-C-M-Y to Y-M-C-K?? What are the possible side effects of doing so? Is there a specific reason for running K-C-M-Y? Many thanks Dave

Sounds like calcification, basically dried fount water on the rollers. As said, Feboclean used to work and there are other de-calcifying products around too. Do you run an R/O or D/I unit for the water supply or straight tap water?

Definately, the interaction of each ink key on a solid blade was part of the learning curve, none of the luxury of segmented blades with their defined zones and no interaction.:)

Why oh why do you need to try to make a point out of nothing Alois? Being thin and flexible has nothing to do with it at all, there are only a few types of ink duct blade, SOLID, SEGMENTED, OR FINGERED. A solid blade is the style used in the Solna and older presses, segmented is the newer...

It is solid, I.e. not a segmented finger blade as used in modern designs. Flexibility has nothing to do with being a solid or not.

Amazing, I thought that technology went out with the dinosaurs! I hope they have fitted a better side lay and headlay, the originals were bad on a good day :) Ran a 425 single-handed for a good few years, not easy. Good times though.

Wow Solna 125! I learnt to print on one of these devils, 34 years ago. I think the ink keys are around 1" apart, and yes there are no 'zones' as such as it has a solid ink duct blade. I think the lead edge is around 1/2" into the sheet, if that's what you mean?
