    Shrink Sleeve Question

Hi, can anyone tell me an easy way to figure out where the center lines of shrink sleeve panels should be? We generally send blank template to our customers that just show the layflat measurement along with the normal clear areas. But, a customer's designer is asking us to provide them with the...

Concerns with Proof File vs Designed Artwork

This is called trap, it is needed for registration on press. You can ask if they can reduce it a bit but it's most likely still going to be noticeable.

    Press issues....thoughts?

RGB has a much wider color gamut than CMYK. A lot of colors change when you convert from RGB to CMYK. Your hard color proofs should be done by the printer since it will most likely represent what they can achieve on press after color converting and press profiles are accounted for.

Colorized Bitmaps, with a manual trap knocking out

I don't accept pre-trapped files, it only makes more work for me because the trapping is not usually correct.

Anyone use Esko suite 12 with newer Mac Operating software?

Is anyone using Esko Deskpak Suite 12 on the newer Mac OS operating software? I know the ESKO website says that Esko Suite 12 is not compatible with the newer versions of the operating software but think its more of a ploy to get you to pay for upgrades. Management is not happy and the cost to...

    Curve Organization Methods

I currently have a total of 12 different curves for 4 different presses. We do not have separate curves for different aniloxes. We only fingerprint based on press, ink + substrate. We combine similar materials into one curve. Never had an issue doing it this way.

Stepping out Flexo plates by hand....question on bearer bars!

Hi, I usually step my files out using Esko software and smartmarks. But, I have a job that needs specific marks so I need to step the files by hand in .ai. I am wondering if anyone knows if the bearer bars should be distorted when I go to distort the art for plating? Since I am used to using...

Designer showed a customer final files without overprint preview settings on, really?

I ended up picking different spots colors to get as close to the designers files without overprint as I could and explained if they wanted it any closer then they needed to work with the designer (USING OVERPRINT PREVIEW). They went to the designer and he came back with different PMS colors to...

Designer showed a customer final files without overprint preview settings on, really?

They created a spot color banner that uses a "hard light" blending along with a 70% transparency. This band sits on top of a 4cp image. So no, there is no overprinting to turn off, even if I take the blending off it does not look the same as how it looks without the overprint preview on.

Designer showed a customer final files without overprint preview settings on, really?

I am in the middle of proofing a job that uses multiple transparencies and blending modes... the proofs looked good (or so I thought), I sent them out for approval (PDFs). Nope, the customer has come back saying the color in the proofs look different than the original files the designer sent...

    Flexo Screen Angles

Thanks for the info, if the angles I have been using for the last 14 years are wrong I am confused as to why there was never and issue. Also, my current angles are all 30° apart (except for the yellow) so why wouldn't they meet the requirements? If I switch to different screen angles and the...

    Flexo Screen Angles

Do most of you use one common set of screen angles for all jobs? I know different screen angles produce different results depending on anilox angles. I had a job plated recently with a different set of screen angles than our "norm" and the dots ended up printing 100x better. I have used the same...

ICC Profiles, and Press Scenarios, and Color Accurate Proofs... Oh, my!

I am not sure if you have a RIP or software already but some proofers come with free software to create proof profiles. Check to see if your proofer provides this. If not there are options to buy a RIP or profile (curve) software for your proofer so you can create these proof profiles. The way I...
