AstraZeneca wanted to offer 3D virtual mockups that could show an entire package, particularly for folded boxes, and share these designs with their internal customers.

Creating packaging designs in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign, they needed a product that would generate fast, high-quality 3D folded box models, which in the past was done manually using paper mockups. They found that Esko’s Studio–an Adobe Illustrator plugin–provided what they were looking for: speed and quality, with an easy way to create 3D artwork.

AstraZeneca used Studio Toolkit for Boxes to create the structural ARD files, while Studio Designer transforms the graphic designs into 3D. These are sent to AstraZeneca's internal customers to help them better visualize the package with regard to size, shape, how they close–and to make sure that information is printed in line with its company's packaging Trademark Manual.

Benefits to AstraZeneca are that it is an Illustrator plugin where they are able to work within the familiar Illustrator design package and any company computer with an Adobe PDF Reader is able to view and rotate the 3D artwork, streamlining their process with added quality for their internal customers.
