Automated ganged impostions from web2print orders

Hello all,

I am looking for an automated work-flow solution for ganging web2print orders.

Basically i am after

An order is placed online for 1000 of one unit and 2000 of another unit
(sizes are the same, our media can fit 3up of this size)
• Automation system must be able to identify the order quantities and sizes from the web2print order (via JDF etc).
• Automatically gang the pdf imposition 1up of the small quantity and 2up of the larger quantity onto the specified media for a run length of 1000 and export order into MIS
• Then move the imposition onto rips hot folder
All preferable with no human intervention.

The system just has to gang units in one order not multiple orders.
We run a web press so we are only limited by the width of our web.

I have seen systems do this with Metrix but I was after something a little more affordable.

I have shot an email of to Dynagram but I am yet to hear back.

Can anyone suggest a solution?

Thanks

Off the shelf solutions for web2print impositioning

Perhaps you might check with Michael Jahns at Compose (he replied in a recent post titled "How to produce a ticket out of Illustrator" and see if he can recommend a web2print imposition package in your price range of $10K.
It sounds like you have a pretty narrowly defined list of variables that would benefit from automation in imposition and having a jdf file coming in from the web order would seem to guarantee that it can be done with a packaged application. If you/he finds something with the capabilities you need I would like to hear what the cost of the solution is.

around 10k would be nice but I guess it depends on the level of automation

Depending on certain needs, a Metrix installation can start under $3K. You'd still have some operator intervention, but potentially it could be very little. We'd be able to receive your incoming data, calculate the most cost effective set of layouts and pass it on for imaging/output, as imposed PDF, or JDF. I think it could be set-up to work very simply for your needs. If you're interested, feel free to call me.

Dynagram inpO2

Dynagram inpO2

InpO2 Automation is a great solution for this. Under $2K, simple to use and can handle all the advanced step and repeat you're looking for. Especially if you combine it with something like Enfocus Switch to organize and sort your files pre-imposition. We've been doing many of these types of solutions lately.

If I have not already talked to you, please feel free to contact me directly at [email protected]. I'd be more than happy to go over the details and help you get to the bottom line. :)

BIB - Big Ice Box (cool product with the funny name)

Hi there,

Since my name was invoked by M. R. Horton ( Thanks MRH !), i suppose i should hop in and reply...

An order is placed online for 1000 of one unit and 2000 of another unit
(sizes are the same, our media can fit 3up of this size)

That is fine, our BIB Job Submission manager will capture that and sort as to what is available - example, if you have the one at 1000 and the other at 2000, the 1000 art will be one up and the 2000 art will be two up. We do not care if the sizes are the same or not.

• Automation system must be able to identify the order quantities and sizes from the web2print order (via JDF etc).

Yep, in our product, we can except a well formed .txt file, .csv file, an XML file or (of course) a JDF file...

- if you are clever and can deliver to our web service, we accept both JDF and JMF !

• Automatically gang the pdf imposition 1up of the small quantity and 2up of the larger quantity onto the specified media for a run length of 1000 and export order into MIS

... or offer several solutions, you pick one, then click run - or, have rules based workflow that simply spools the job to your workflow.

• Then move the imposition onto rips hot folder
All preferable with no human intervention.

Lights out, man with dog system, yes, that is the mission ! - yes. Dog is there to keep man from fussing with the keyboard, mouse, buttons and switches. Man is there to feed the dog.

•The system just has to gang units in one order not multiple orders.

Yes, you can set up multiple plates, multiple papers...choose what sorts of trim marks, margins, space between jobs, etc...

email me - be happy to set up a demo, offer a trial -

Hello Michael (michaelejahn),

I have actually demoed BIB at a previous workplace and it seemed to be ok (we use to use compose express workflow). I wouldn't mind having another crack at it. I have actually been looking at compose's label print express but I don't know if it will deliver the level automation that I am after (I work in labels now).

Can you please organise some demo software of both systems?

Also what is your web service?

Do any of the systems mentioned above link up with current web2print services if so can I see a demo of that?

It depends on what kind of data your web2print system can export. Metrix can accept several types of input - .csv, .mxml, and for some work JDF. If you're interested in a demo, give me a shout.

As some of you know, Ultimate Technographics is partnering with several Web2Print and Digital press manufacturers. We offer the MOST COMPLETE line of digital printing solutions.

Other software developers specialise on offet solutions, ganging for offset presses with an offset mentality (some even use light tables (like on the old days) on their interface).

Our high end solutions are not a "plug-in" to Acrobat and most of our solutions do NOT require Acrobat to run, hence not dependent on that technology.

Ultimate is the specialist when it comes to short run digital printing, extreme volume transactional printing (we can impose 100000 pages in less than 10 minutes with our Scalable Server technology), VDP and W2P solutions, etc.

If you want a free consultation, a free trial (complete product) license, and the most productive solution, please contact one of our experts.
