Blue lines on plate ! ! !

BOB PRINTING

New member
Hi to everyone.
I have an xcalibur 45e and till now worked good ! ! !
I "printed a lot a chinese plate" till 4 days ago, same box plates, same developer.
I tried to choose the rigth "plate profile", but lines appears always.
I use also a energy lite plate with different "plate profile", and they work rigth.
Maybe same settings are changed in my chinese plates profiles ? ?
Somebody can help me ? ? ?
My technician is in "SUMMER HOLYDAY FOR TWO WEEKS"
Many thanks for help.

Bye from Italy
Roberto.

Roberto,

According to your description, I would say you have banding on your plate. The question is if you have very thin lines or the thick lines on the plate? It could help if you attached a picture of the plate.
Banding could be caused by misaligned or dusted Mag motor, linear encoder, carriage rail, Afim, corrupted GLV profile and laser system. This could also be caused by the plates. In the former case a new profile and alignment for the laser has to be carried out and generated. The processor temperature and Speed has to be adopted to this plate as well. Having said these,
Your machine works very well on Agfa plates, but on Chinese plates, at least some of them i understand, you experience banding. This is because of high latitude of Agfa Plates. In simple words, Agfa Plates hid the lines generated from separated beams (360 or 240 separated beams) to a certain point. I would say the best plates for GLV systems.
What you should do is as follows: If it is thin lines, then clean the GLV and The Mag motor and align Mag motor using the description in the service manual and find a wedge on the plate with no white or black lines. Lock the magnification motor in engine configuration of the Unidiag software .Then enter this value in the parameter set up of Unidiag. After that Reduce the Drum Speed in the engine configuration by 10 units. The next step is to increase the exposure in OCT by 20 unites. The exposure value for every plate has to be below 600 Units. At this point you must reboot the system.
Drain the chemistry and fill the processor up with a fresh Chemistry.Work on temperature and speed(dwell) of the processor to get rid of the lines. What you have to work on is to gradually increase the temperature or/and slowing down the speed till the desired objective being met. Check every plate one by one as they go through the processor and as soon as you find the line appears on the plate repeat the procedure. You might scarify the quality, but it is much better than throwing the plates away. Do what ever you are capable of doing. You shouldn't necessarily do all the procedure described above.
One last advise: Never use 2 or more different plates to process in the same chemistry.

Hope this will help!

Roberto,

The problem is your plate. I have seen this on many Chinese Plates. I suggest to stay safe. Increase the Temperature and reduce the speed on the processor. Increase the Exposure value on OCT. Use Fresh chemistry in the processor. Try these before continuing further. My Direct e-mail address is [email protected].

Toronto is beautiful so does Roma! arrivederci.

You're right! ! ! THE PROBLEM IS THE CHINESE PLATE ! ! !
IS THE SAME PROBLEM WHIT CHINESE GOODS,
SAME SHAPE, SAME COLOUR, SAME CARTON BOX, SAME RESELLER BUT . . . . . . . NOT FUNCTIONALITY.
I KNOW THEY COST LESS, BUT I'M SURE THEY CAN DO MORE QUALITY FOR SAME PRICE.
I HAD WATH YOU SAID TO ME. I IMPROVED LASER POWER FROM 420 TO 500, LOWERED DRUM SPEED FROM 145 TO 120 RPM, LOWERW DEVELOPER SPEED AND ICREASED TEMPERATURE BATH FROM 24 TO 26 C°.
"BLUE LINES WERE DISAPPEARED" AND EVERITHING WENT GOOD.
MANY THANKS FOR YOU HELP. (YOU ARE A "REAL TECHNICIAN").

CIAO DA ROBERTO, HOPE READ YOU SOON ON THE WEB, CIAOOOOOOO FROM ITALY, BYE.

Roberto,

When you use Agfa plates you will have to restore the original settings. You know this, but I thought addressing this doesn't hurt.
You will also need to do quality check on highlight and shadow dots as well as lines on each Chinese plate coming out of the processor and modify the original settings as need to do basis.
Wish you the best and good luck with your production and the quality control!
