We operate on a FUJI CTP. We decided to purchase a new proofer to complement our old one (Sherpa) to which we send files directly from our Agfa Apogee system. The most logical solution was to find a proofer that can directly operate from the Fuji RIP to avoid making the job twice. We were advised to get the Epson 9880. So we did. The Fuji RIP did read it, but color calibration can only be done manually from our RIP. Now we find ourselves having to make a new big investment in order for us to be able to get optimal results on our new proofer.
The question is: what would you do?
1. update the apogee system to the newest apogee X
this means the old sherpa can no longer be read, only the new one. it also means we will continue doing the work twice instead of directly sending it from our CTP's RIP
2. update the Fuji RIP to the XMF
the old sherpa can not be read either, and although we were told it does calibrate automatically, our trust in the provider was shook up by the bad surprise we experience.
3. purchase black magic software on our current fuji celebrant
we were told this would solve our problem, however, we don't know much about it and are not sure what we are told is correct (for the same reason as number 2.)
