Can’t reload Epson Stylus Color 3000

Hey PrintPlanet Folk; happy Good Friday.

I have an Epson Stylus Color 3000 that recently got knocked out of register. Looking on my Mac for the utility to do a nozzle realignment, I went to the print&fax system pref panel clicked on the Epson in the printer list and accidentally hit the little square "-" key, which removed the printer from the list. So I hit the "+" key for the printer list to get it back, and it will not show up in that list either, or the more printers list. For 3 days now... rebooted everything several times; went to Epson’s website and tried some downloads from there; have been searching my Mac for everything I can think of, etc., etc.
I know this is an easy, idiots only mistake to fix! I just can’t remember how I did this last time. Can someone help me? I just need to get it back; then I will worry about the registration issue. Thanks in advance!
All the best to all of PrintPlanet.
Kindest regards,
MJNC

My issue is that when I had that printer at home, ti ran fine. When i took it to work and put it on the network, I can get the computers to see in OSX, but nothing will go to it.

I will see if I can come up with something.

Here's what I did to find it.

When you go to add a printer to the list under the Printer Setup Utility, select the IP printing tab if you have one.
Hopefully you know the IP address of the Epson Printer. Once you have that, enter that in the appropriate fields and then you should be able to find some drivers under the Epson list. I had to use the Gimp options, but it did work.

pmkprog;
I appreciate the hints. I gotta find out what the IP address is for this thing and I will give it a try.
Just wanted to say, sorry about the “idiot’s only” remark below; I just get p’d-off at this crap sometimes. We are all geniuses in what we do everyday; some have more experience in areas other than what I do. That’s why this board works.
Thanks,

I first bought my SC3000 back in 1999. The nozzle cleaning and all the utilities that came with it worked like a charm on Mac OS 8.6 and also with OS 9x.x. But when Apple went to their Os X Epson was a long time in coming up with drivers for the 3000. To use the printer I had to keep going back to the Classic OS in order to use the printer. And when Epson did finally come out with drivers for the 3000, there were no utilities with the driver. Since Epson has stopped support for the 3000, I had to go to Gutenprint or Gimp print for drivers that kept it online until I upgraded to my 3800. The Gutenprint drivers keep the 3000 printing but there are no cleaning utilities or utilites of any king that I have discovered.

To get your printer back online, I would suggest the Gutenprint drivers and follow the online help they give you for setting up your printer. Gutenprint is for printers as what Vue Scan is for old scanners and Gutenprint has been free so far.

Now if your printer is on a network, I'm not all that sure how to help your computer recognize it on a network, I have always had mine plugged into the back of my computer.

Best of luck in getting it back on line

I just re-read your post, and again suggest going with the Gutenprint drivers and for you to follow the instructions that have posted for installing a new printer.

Happy Friday PrintPlanet folk.
pmkprog - I finally got our IT guy to check the router app and get me an IP address. So I plugged it in like you said; and violã! My Epson is back again. Thanks so much for your help.
And have a great weekend.

register?

register?

Hey Grain of Salt;
So today is the day I finally get to deal with the Epson registration problem. I loaded the gutenprint, did the nozzle alignment (which gives you a little warning that this will change your printer forever and we’re not liable, etc.), printed a test job, and it looked ok. Hurray!
Thinking that my printer was now aligned forever, I uninstalled gutenprint. I tried the page again, and the permanent fix was no longer fixed. I would have left it on, but it made Illustrator refuse to print anything in the correct orientation (even if I set the opposite orientation of the way it should be...). So, uninstalling gutenprint corrected the orientation, but I am back to square one with the registration issue. Any other ideas?
Thanks for all the help anyway;
Sincerely,
_mjnc

Solution?

Solution?

Hi PrintPlanet!
A little known utility exists within the Epson printer itself. Turn off the printer, make sure there’s paper, and press the pause button. While holding that down, hit the main power button and hold both of them down for at least 3 seconds. The machine will print out instructions as to how to proceed from there. I’m still working on it; will let you know how I do!

Hey PrintPlanet;
the saga continues... The little known utility only does print head adjustments left to right (the direction they travel when printing); the adjustment I need is up and down. Any other ideas folks? Anyone?
thanks...

ps; I would even do the adjustment manually if I could access the print heads...

I left the Gutenprint drivers on my mac to run the 3000. I never took them off. They actually give one more control over the printer than the native Epson drivers do. I would set my 3800 Stylus pro up with them, but they don't support the 3800 yet. I never removed them as you did
