Ceramic/Chrome roller wipers

We run web presses that are 40" wide. When we run stock that is under 30" wide, there is some difficulty controlling water on the edges. Our ink supplier recently recommended using wipers on our water pan rollers out on the edges (we use chrome pan rollers). I have not seen this done before- does anyone have experience with using a squegee-type wiper on the outside edges of your water pan roller to remove water from roller that is outside of the print area?
It is intriguing to me, but I see a lot of potential problems. On the other hand, it would solve the primary concern of controlling water all the way to the end of a roller that has no take off or need of water control.

I'm curious if anyone has tried this, and if so- do you still do it or was it a trial that was scrapped?

Thanks!

Used 'water stops' for many years on our web presses. Also used air bars (air curtain) on the rollers to reduce the amount of moisture on the ends. Water stops much cheaper and requires far less technology.
