CMYK images turning into Lab after exporting PDF

Hello,
Sometimes when I export PDF's from Quark 6.53 lets say for a catalog one or two images will come up thru the Pitstop Preflight as LAB. When I click on the edit tool and have it open up in photoshop thru pitstop sure enough its LAB. But the original placed in the Quark doc is CMYK?
Any ideas?

Yes I have done that, but unfortuantley the company I work for uses Hot Folders to generate PDF's to make sure all the artists are creating their PDF's the same. But we know that sometimes you have to rip PDF's a certain way to achieve a certain outcome.
I was just baffled trying to figure out why it would be LAB, when it was clearly CMYK to start with. Maybe its just a Quark Quirk.......ohh Indesign how I miss you!

You can quickly check in Acrobat pro if they are Lab or if it is just pitstop that is labeling Calibrated CMYK as Lab.
What PDF settings are you using? Are you sticking to a PDF standard (eg PDFx or GWG)?
