CMYK to CMY MYK

Hi, can anyone please recommend good workarounds to converting CMYK to MYK and CMY?



I am usually doing this in Photoshop through adjustments in the Channel Mixer but depending on the image the results are not always great. This is for print where sometimes due limitations in print stations I need to drop one of the colours from CMYK.



Would really appreciate any suggestions.

To convert CMYK to CMY can be easily done by comverting the CMYK image into RGB and reseparating the new RGB image into CMY by changing your color settings to Custom/no Black.

Converting from CMYK to MYK - Convert the CMYK image into RGB. Then create a new blank CMYK image at the same size/resolution. Then go to the RGB image and copy the Blue Channel and then paste that into the Yellow channel of the blank CMYK image. Then go back to the RGB version and copy the Red channel and paste that into the Magenta channel of the CMYK image. Then go back to the RGB image and copy the Green channel and then paste that into the Black channel of the formally blank CMYK image. Select the M & Y channels and make tone/ contrast adjustments to the M & Y together to achieve the look you want. The below sample looks bad because it's the CMYK image converted to RGB by the internets.

Back before everyone had color machines, we had a regular flyer job that we converted to CMY, and then ran only the CM on yellow paper on a 2-color Ryobi. It worked well, considering it was just a flyer.

Now I just need to find one that does CMYK conversion to MYK.
