CREO Imposition

We just got a Xerox 8000AP with CREO (CXP8000 v3.0sp2). This is our first exposure to CREO, previous cut-sheet printers were FreeFlow. We're not having much luck with the imposition feature.

We are trying to print a letter sized document on tabloid form imposed to a saddle stitched booklet layout. (partial Job ticket below, full job ticket attached). The preview shows everything fits on the sheet and is imposed in saddle stitched booklet order, but the job always fails in processing with this error, “Imposition layout exceeds the boundaries of the selected paper size. Please change imposition parameters, or adjust their values”.

It looks like what you are trying to impose is letter size. Perhaps the imposition is trying to allow room for marks or bleed making it larger than 11 x 17. You might try creating an imposition that is smaller than letter (7x9 or some such) just to see if that works. If you get the smaller size to print you might see that there are indeed marks applied and you can also work your way up in size until it says it won't fit. This might help you figure out what the problem is.

@ Ray - you crack me up. No matter what the question is, you answer is always "don't use what you have, buy our product"

@ Onlyinajeep - My guess here is that there are either some margin setting given the error message - or perhaps - for Orientation - you have portrait instead of landscape ? Probably something simple like that.

Maybe make sure all the pages of your PDF are the exact same size (specifically the Media Box). Pitstop can do this.

I have been trying to remember this from when I ran the same machine.It has been a while.I remember that we had to play with imposition and even lie to the machine to get it to work. Don't always go by the diagram that shows whether the sheets will fit or not. When you are having problems while using imposition I found that our problems could be any of the following:Cut size was wrong (set too large or too small).Template should be 1 x2 instead of 2 x 1, 2 x3 instead of 3 x 2 etc.
Does not need to rotate if set to rotate and does need to rotate if not set to rotate. Should be landscape instead of portrait and vice versa. Paper size is set incorrectly in imposition (when using imposition the paper stock settings are overridden by the settings in imposition ).
When trying to figure out your problem make only one change at a time. In this case the first try changing your cut size to tabloid or none if available.Then if that doesn't work then change it back to letter.Then check your template,next rotation,then orientation.
This is a really good program which can even save settings so that you don't have to enter your settings every time for the same type of jobs. Check with your xerox analyst or technican to teach you about this program.
