CtP or Flexcel

Hello,

Our company still uses films. We are the last in the Benelux.
Now Im doing research to CtP. Butt i found an other technology: Flexcel.
The advange is that you still work with films, no extreme costs for machines.
We only work on big formats, whats not possible yet.
Butt Kodak is working for a big format on the moment.

Is this technology as good as it looks? Does somebody uses it?
Is it user friendly? ...

Thanks!

Hi Magnet -

I believe you're referring to our "Flexcel NX" system, which is a CTP imager which writes the image to a special film interlayer. That film is laminated to the plate and exposed similarly to a digital LAMS plate, but produces a very unique result: flat-top dots as small as 10 microns.

The resolution is astounding, allowing flexo printing up to 300lpi. However, that's not the real value for most printers. The flat-top dots give incredible impression latitude, keeping very consistent and predictable quality with no need for a bump curve, as well as delivering many times the runlength of a normal flexo plate.

See this web page for full details on the system: KODAK FLEXCEL NX Digital Flexographic System - Kodak Graphic Communications Group

We also sell analog flexo plates called simply "Flexcel", so I wanted to clarify the above.

We have many customers in Europe now - if you want to talk to a user let me know and I'll get you in touch with our local team. (If you're from Magnet Litho, I visited you a couple years ago - I hope all is going well!)

Hello,

Thanks for the information.
I have one question. Do you need the trendsetter NX or can you use other imagesetters as well?

Thx

Yes - it's a complete system. Half the "magic" is in the film, but the other half is in the SQUAREspot imaging system of the Trendsetter NX. The good news is that if you also do offset printing, the Trendsetter NX is capable of imaging offset plates too.
