Can anyone out there tell me what kind of effect a curve will have on our printing?
Will it make a drastic change?

By "curve" I assume you mean applying a tone curve to the printing plate?
Typically this is done to bring presswork tone reproduction in line with some predetermined target.
So you need to look at your presswork now and where you want it to be in terms of tone reproduction in order to know whether there will be a drastic change.

Not to be flippant, but it depends on how drastic is the curve that's applied.

You can make drastic changes, or subtle ones.
