Customer Supplied PDF...

When a customer provides a PDF that is to be output digitally to a Fiery equipped printer what is the standard procedure for color management? I have tried using the PDF Fixup for digital output and that seems to give me colors that are off from what I expected. The standard CMYK SWOP has given me the best results it seems.

I just got a subscription to Lynda and plan to try and learn more about color management.

Do you have an embedded fiery? Most would allow the fiery to control your color management. The server can trump the color output intent of the file. We use Gracol, which is popular with digital CMYK.

Yes we have the integrated Fiery. I have found in several cases choosing the pure primaries option under CMYK in the RIP color settings gives us better results.

I am just amazed that we got by for so many decades running color work on the offset press without any real color issues. On the digital machines though it seems like a chore to get the colors to come out right sometimes.

Since I asked this question we calibrated and profiled our system. The colors seem to be coming out perfectly now.
