Darwin Desktop Imposition

We are just starting to get into the VDP printing and I am running Darwin Desktop. I have a Creo rip. We are printing some post cards and I want to impose them 4 up on a sheet. However, I haven't figured out how to do that. I've tried the imposition option on the rip, but that didn't work. I don't see any options in Darwin to impose it. Does anyone know how to impose a VPS file from Darwin?

Thanks ahead of time.

The only way to impose a VPS file that I know of is the RIP. And you should be able to do this...I did it last Friday on my Creo RIP on my Oce 665. You create the VPS file and drop it in the shared folder called HF_Store on your creo. The job will then pop up in your store queue at which time you can use the Creo to set your imposition.

I've tried to impose it on the Rip without success. I'm not using the hot folder, instead I'm printing directly to the rip. When the files gets there, each record is a separate booklet. So my 500 records become 500 booklets. Each booklet with a front and back to it. And I have not been able to impose multiple booklets together.

How are you not using the hot folder? When it opens up InDesign to print it doesn't allow you to select a printer it only allows you to save it as a Postscript file. Are you trying to print the Postscript file? If so don't. Send the postscript file to the rip via the hot folder and it should work.

You can't do the impo any other way than on the RIP.

BUT there is a way that you can do a manual imposition, it just needs a little database manipulation.

Setup your document 4 up with the relevant gutters and bleed. In your database (say 400 records) have records 1-100 in fields a-d, records 101-200 in fields e-h, records 201-300 in fields i-l, records 301-400 in fields m-p.

This way you can specify 1 set of records on each item.

Hope this makes sense..
