Digital B&W Presses

After a few month of research we are narrowing our search for a new B&W Digital Press to the KM 1050 E, The Titanium 2110 and a Darkhorse the Nuvera. Does anyone have opinions on these 3 boxes? Are you investing in worflows to go with them? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Re: Digital B&W Presses

Ray,

The answer to your question depends upon the type of work and your workflow.

Choosing digital printers depends on criteria you determine in these areas:
- Quality / output (does the machine meet your output needs)
- Cost (including capital, maintenance, clicks, supplies, labor, paper)
- internal benefits - can the equipment drastically improve/change your operational processes?
- external benefits - can the equipment open up new market spaces?
- workflow - how does the equipment fit into your informational and physical workflow.
- support - does the supplier have the support necessary (i.e. local service techs)

Assuming you have qualified each piece of equipment for appropriateness of output, I would create a cost model to determine total cost of print for each of the devices, including capital costs, fixed and variable maintenance charges, supplies (toner), labor and paper. I would also look seriously at support from the vendor, as a lack of support can ruin returns on a printe investment.

Craig,

We actually just did our weighted values to each category.

These including Quality, Flexibilty, front end etc.

We are now choosing between the Oce' 2110 and the Xerox 4112. It's interesting to us since we didn't even think xerox was a player in this.

We have the Xerox 4127, and absolutely LOVE it. You can't beat Xerox Service, at least in our neck of he woods. We are in the middle of a 600.000 11.5 x 17.5 copy job and have been running the machine for 3 shifts the last few days. It hasn't missed a beat!

Ray,

Glad to see you are making progress. Service is a critical component of making a print decision - do you know the number of trained techs for each mfg in the area? Are Xerox or Oce giving you different service options for differing service levels. If there are few of these types of printers in your area, will the mfg stock replacement parts at your facility?

I have had good success with both Xerox and Oce, both from a machine and service perspective. However, it is important to clarify these things prior to signing a contract.
