DPM 2340 Mirror-Anyone?

Does anyone know if the DPM 2340 has a laser spinner mirror? If so how do we access it so it can be cleaned? Having some quality issues with screens and plate longevity that we dont think is related to the chemistry or exposure.

Yes it does. It is on the laser carriage which is mounted to the the long screw drive under the top cover. I wouldn't mess with it unless you know what you are doing. In my experience, unless the the mirror is incredibly dirty you won't see much change in image quality. A dirty mirror wouldn't effect plate longevity. It can effect screen quality but only if you are running very fine screens generally 150 lpi+. That is assuming that you are outputting at 2400 dpi or higher. Have you checked your screen calibration? Also what type of plate are you using and how long have you been dealing with this issue?

Like Bill said, if you have never been shown how to clean it, I would not mess with hunting for the mirror, although dust bunnies stuck to it can degrade quality. Your issue sounds more like an bad chemistry, exposure, or plate material issue. We have been having a heck of a time with different batches of plate material varying by a large margin on sensitivity. It is to the point that we generally run an exposure sweep on a new roll before we even run a centering plate.

Even though my operator "says" he just did it 2 weeks ago, I came in early and changed out the chemicals myself and checked the exposure sweeps. Chemicals didnt look bad but the exposure sweeps were way off and different between the page setups. The plates do look better, we'll see how it goes today. He should be checking those more often.

I hate it when I have to step in and fix this kinda stuff myself.

I found the mirror, had some dust on it, hasnt been cleaned in 10 years, that I know of.:p
