Embedding fonts in Acrobat Pro 8

We have a PDF file with 2 fonts not embedded. If I understand this correctly, in order to embed these fonts, you need to have exact matching fonts like postscript with postscript, OTF and OTF... otherwise you'll get a warning message for font codes does not match. Is there a workaround to this problem in Acrobat?

You will need to have fonts activated in Suitcase, then you make a postscript file, make sure under general setting where it says "Font Inclusion" it reads "Embedded and Referenced Fonts", if not choose it. Then distill the .ps file and it's done. Hopefully it helped.

fonts active, suitcase is an option

I gave up on suitcase a while back after it would spontaneously make fonts type 3 for no apparent reason. But activating the fonts as Homa suggests and including referenced fonts should solve the problem. Redestill and compate the document shows if you have success

Yea, I don't use Suitcase myself... FontXplorer has been great for us.

I appreciate the suggestion but it still doesn't work, below is the message I get after the following changes: select text using TouchUp Text tool > Properties > embed font check off > export to postscript with embedded font and reference > distiller

%%[ Error: Palatino-Roman not found, using Font Substitution. Font cannot be embedded. ]%%
%%[ Error: typecheck; OffendingCommand: cshow ]%%

Last resort, we rasterized the few pages with this problem.

Follow up story is our printer who uses Apogee RIP is still struggling with this original PDF. Apparently unused text sitting off some pages are also the same fonts that was not embedded keeps crashing their RIP. I suspect they just need to use retouch tool and remove all references to this font that was not embedded.

Nothing is ever easy working with different publisher's files... how these people ever manages to get anything printed amazes me everyday. The sad part is, publishers resale these poorly constructed files to each other for reprints.

I would quit Distiller, and either use Suitcase or /Users/username/Library/Fonts to place fonts into.
If using Suitcase, Deactivate the fonts in Suitcase (do not remove them), then re-Activate the fonts in Suitcase, then open Distiller, go to Settings menu > Font Locations, and Add fonts from wherever you have them located on your drive.

For some reason, I see this sometimes too (rarely). When it happens, this fixes the problem for me to get the job out.
