Face Trimming Booklets

Hey guys, I've been getting more orders for booklets and they need to be face trimmed to take away the shingling. Our main application is booklets for our i house work, but we don't need to face trim them. I don't want to get into big offline equipment, I just want to find out what ways there are to face trim our booklets. I can do it on our cutter, but as many of you probably know cutting saddle stitch booklets on a guillotine isn't exactly easy.

Also, Xerox proposed the square fold/face trim module when we signed for the machine, but I think it was going to be an extra $400 or so a month, which I think is pretty ridiculous honestly.

Hi, we have the square edge module fitted to our Versant. It's very good if pricey, it does a great job of trimming the face and the booklets come out flat so trimming the rest is easier on a cutter. it has some limitations with stock and pages etc but it's helped speed up our production quite a lot.

We have two of them, one on our C75, and another on our 2100. We didn't pay $400/mo, or even $300/mo. As for their usefulness, we have been quite pleased. The one on our 2100 has always given us fits with random crooked cutting, but the one on the C75 has been perfect since day one. They are kind of slow, but do a nice job. My biggest complaint is the cut variation from book to book, which is about 1/16" of an inch.

We have 2 of the square fold trimmers. I agree with you on the variation. For most of our jobs it is not a big deal. I do like the idea of booklets coming out of the press and being ready for the box.
