Fiery Ecosystem - please explain...

I should know this already, but I've only ever had spotty exposure to our Fierys over the many years.

Things I know:
- We have a Fiery server on our Iridesse and one on our Versant. There will be one on the Ricoh 8420 that's arriving soon.
- Each of these Fierys have a monitor, mouse and keyboard attached
- We control each individual print device's jobs from the attached Fierys via Command Workstation.
- I have CWS on my office PC, and can see all the Fierys in the shop

What I'd like to know:
- How can I tell what, if any, optional features I have on my Fierys? Is there a license manager or similar?
- I've heard that optional feature subscriptions (or outright purchases) such as JobMaster are registered/activated to one computer, and that those features can be used on jobs residing on other Fierys. True?
- Is Fiery Hot Folders a base feature or is it optional?
- Is imposition a base feature or is it optional?

1. Right click on your printer in CWS on the left under "Servers", then select "Device Center". It should list all the options for the device.
2. Not 100% sure, but I think it's true. We bought a shop with an Iridesse and Fiery Impose, but our Canon equipment doesn't use Fiery, so I can't test it.
3. Hot Folders are generally a standard for all Fiery devices, although their website says some embedded Fiery's don't have it enabled, but that's likely office printers.
4. Impose is an add-on feature. It's pretty robust, but I prefer to have my jobs imposed in prepress and not on the RIP.

HI @Stickman42
I work for Fiery and am also involved with Xerox Fierys, so I can help here.
1. In Fiery world, we have 2 different kind of licensed options - server-based and client-based. Server-based are what they sound like - a license that is tied to that specific server. Fiery Graphic Arts Pro Package, which comes with your Iridesse, is a good example of this. What this means is that any CWS client that connects to that Fiery server can use that option. In Device Center, you see the list of activated server-based options. If you click the Manage button, you'll see not only the server-based options that you've already activated, but other available ones as well.
2. Client-based options are things like Impose and JobMaster. They are tied to a specific CWS client (aka computer running CWS). What that means is you can use them with any Fiery server that you connect to in that specific CWS client. If you have CWS installed on another computer in your shop, you will not be able to use Impose or JobMaster on that one, unless you have another Impose or JobMaster icense. To see what client-based licenses you have installed on a particular CWS client, right click on a job and choose Impose. You'll either get the Impose window to open up or you'll get a message about using in demo mode (which means you don't have Impose activated on that CWS client) - click OK/yes if that's the case. Once Impose opens, click Manage License under the Help menu at the top.
3. Fiery Hot Folders is standard on the Fiery server for the Iridesse, all Versant Fiery servers, and on the Fiery server for the Ricoh 8420. So you've got it everywhere.
4. One Impose-Compose license came with your Iridesse. Since you mentioned that you have the Windows Fiery w/keyboard, monitor, and mouse for your Versant, I know another Impose license came with that one (possibly Impose-Compose as well, depending on whether you have V4100/3100/2100 or V280/180/80). Impose licenses are not preinstalled on Fiery servers: a piece of paper with the license key comes in the box. So it's up to you which computer you activate those licenses on. It can be on CWS installed on the Fiery server itself, or it can be on any CWS client that you use to connect to the Fiery server(s). You can also move client-based licenses between CWS clients using the chatbot on the Fiery Communities site (communities.fiery.com).

Hope this helps!

Make it so I can sort Hot Folders alphabetically in the Hot Folders app, please.

Will pass along to the right people! 👍🏻 Fiery Communities is also a great please to make feature requests, the team pays close attention to what's happening there.
I asked about this directly at the EFI booth at Graph Expo in 2017 and 2018. I think also at PrintingUnited 2019 too. It's very hard to "duplicate" a Hot Folder if you can't find it amongst 800 other folders.

i had no idea this was an option! I've made tickets in the past but never seem to get a response from fiery.

i installed my impose license on our color machine which in retrospect is a mistake, as anyone messing with Impose is tying up the machine for as long as it takes them to set up. i'd love to move the impose license to another workstation in my shop and have them do their impose workflows there. what's the prompt i give the ai chatbot to accomplish this?
