FONTS and Phonetic mapping

Dear Forum,

Having some strange issues fonts and phonetic mapping...

I've got a word list from an author with phonetic spellings, using a phonetic font, in Microsoft Excel.

I have the same font loaded into Extensis Fusion and i can see all the characters in the glyph palette.

I cut and paste the word list into InDesign CS3, and the phonetic characters do not flow correctly into ID, apporx 95% is good, odd characters go walkabout, which then means i have to re-key these in...

Can anyone shed some light on this ?

I can only assume that the font mapping of characters is not the same for Microsoft / Adobe apps and that's where the errors are being introduced.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Nick.
