HD XL105/10 colour

Dear Friends,
Is it possible to print 600gsm duplex coated board on a XL105 / 10 colour perfecting machine. Print sequence 5 colours on top reverse sheet and print 5 colours on the other side in one straight pass.

Also i think that this kind of configured press is not ideal for packaging printing?

Ideally you printing this thickness on a 5 or 6 colour press with maybe a coating usint if needed.

Should work fine. We have just installed 10/c komori. We can run a thick card perfected keeping in mind proper gutters and coverage.

It should run, but you'll be doing it old school. It may be a false economy to perfect it. What you loose in speed from running slower in perfecting mode on heavy stock, you may make up by running in 2 separate passes in straight mode. Have to say the XL is the best 40"+ machine we've owned.

True you have to pick and choose the jobs you perfect. For long runs that our 4 over 4 you can't touch it. Small runs or very fussy work you will time and time again go back to running one side at a time.

What does that statement mean?

Are you running a XL105 Perfector?

Given the proper inks, layout, properly built files and such, with the machine in perfect, runs at 15,000 without a hitch.... I'll take anyone on in production (production enviroment as well, not the showroom) to prove it;

10,000 sheets (any stock), 5/C both sides (same image, front and back)
both machines running the same job, me perfecting it, you running one side at a time.... I'll be done and at the pub before your ready to wash up!

If your having problems perfecting jobs, maybe try consulting Heidelberg on how to improve your process, it will pay off in the end.

Please remember that we are talking about perfecting in GOLD ink, not CMYK with orange or purple. The issue is GOLD ink which is different than normal ink.
What do you think?

It shouldnt matter really, as long as the ink is properly formulated.

thanks for your reply. what do you mean by properly formulated. we buy the gold ink from FLINT which probably comes from eckart. it is a one component ready mixed gold. Our customer used the spectrophotometer with polarisation to get the ink densities, which flint experts told us is not right. they suggested us to add varnish to the gold ink to flow better. what is your opinion?

Well, ink manufactures prepare the ink differently for perfecting, some are good, some are bad.

There is no problem with adding varnish to the metalic ink.

I agree with Flint on the only using unpolarized filter.....

I like Superior, INX, K&M, or Toyo inks for perfecting.
