heidelberg sm74 register question

our sm 74 has an issue I am dealing with. first problem air hose leak underthe feed board. have not found that yet, so i hooked up an auxillary pump to the feed head and the thing feeds great. except it stops dead at the head stops. so I turn off the auto sheet arrival and it works great. trends perfect and registers better with the auto turned off. with auto turned on we get the maxed out symbol arrow with a line.

any thoughts before I call heidelberg.

Check the timing on your feeder with all the automatic stuff set to zero. Also check for wear in the automatic timing mechanism. We had some servo motors get out of whack on our CD102's. We also had wear in the gears for the drive chain that threw everything off.

The timing chain on the SM74 streching out is VERY common!

Firstly, repair the air leak, then replace the timing chain and then get the feeder timing set back to factory.

I cant even begin to tell you the number of chains I have instaled over the years. The newer models (3 years ago to now) are better, and have a better lubricaton point.

We have a 1999 sm74 and yep the heidelberg guy is bang on. it's the timing chain.We have had tech's in to fix it and runs great. Get the air hose fixed that will give you a lot of feeder grief if running heavy card.

thanks guys I will have the timing chain looked at. I guess its nice to know this is common. we did just replace the motor about 18 months ago. funny thing we just switched to 60# offset today and had to turn automatic back on to get it to run.
