Hi, One of our customer is doing hot foil stamping on a matte laminated sheet. The problem is that the edges of the texts are not sharp.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Were they sharp before? The smudging looks directional. Any relationship to the foiling, lamination direction?

What size is the "t"? What type of machine is doing the stamping? It appears that the right hand side of the images is cleaner than the left . . . could the direction of the foil pull be making a difference? Stamping on a laminated surface can be a can of worms . . . . since the surface distorts when it gets hot.

I would try, if possible, locking it up 180 degrees from how it is now and see if the "tails" change to the other side . . . if they do it might be that it has something to do with the direction of foil pull and its timing from the work moving away from the foil upon its release.

Ask your hot foil supplier which foil is appropriate for foiling on laminate, it has to do with the release time of the foil from it's carrier layer.

Matt black pigment foil? Good luck with that ;) - they're really meant for stamping dates.. rather than the graphic arts.

What's the grade and make of foil? We get a semi decent result with Gloss Black foils.
