How much of a credit do you give?

Question for everyone: how much of a credit do you feel is fair to give a customer for poor printing quality that is your fault?

Depends on what the print pieces are.

If they can still market it, give them 20% credit.

And....that's only if it is truly a fault and one that you own.

It is most definitely NOT the customers fault AT ALL. It was the pressman's fault, he did a poor job and will be told so. In fact, the customer pointed out the issues on the proof and the piece was still wrong. Does anyone reimburse more than 20%, if it is a low cost job? Still offset, just not very expensive.

In almost all cases it is better to reprint for free than to give a credit. Your poor quality printing will be floating around as a sales destroying brochure and you can bet that your customer will give you full credit for it. We have gained more that one account
on just such a situation where the printer should have destroyed his mistake, but instead let it out of his plant.

In this case I'd have the customer return all copies of the job and then reprint it. Make it right.
If it was a very minor defect that doesn't affect the useability of the job then a 20% or so discount might be acceptable.

If it is a low cost job as you say it is give it to the customer for free and apologize. If you give it to them for nothing they will stay with you knowing you regard them in the highest esteem. If you try and penny pinch you could lose them. Guess it depends a lot on how big a customer this is

I agree...In our shop we would reprint for free...since it's time sensitive, We would give it to them for free and "hook em up" on their next job.
