Illustrator bleed allowance

Is there a way/plugin to extend Illustrator's bleed allowance beyond 1"? I'd like to have more useable room around my document trim size without changing the document size itself. Basically, I want more control over the resulting trim and media boxes in pdfs output from Illustrator. -Dan

Dont know of any way to do this. What I normally do for large format (billboards, banners etc.) is just make your document the bleed size and add trim mark/dieline manually. If a plugin exists to do this within AI I would love to hear about it also.

It's also possible to have overlapping artboards, if needed.
