IR Dryer Temperatures...

Disappointed

Well-known member
Hi all,

i once had a figure for the optimum stack temperature when running with IR but have lost it, anyone know what sort of temperature we should be aiming for on the stack probe?

I know it dangerous if too much heat is put into the stack and have even had tales of stacks spontaneously combusting due to the core being way too hot.

Thanks in advance

Dave,
Normally around 90F is acceptable. It's one of those things where more is not better. If too hot you will "dessicate" the stock and it will be a problem 2nd time thro'.
As a rule of thumb: if the pile temparature is raised by about 30F from what it was before you loaded the raw stock into the feeder the drying time will be aproximately halved.
e.g. 60F in new paper pile raised to90F in the delivery=drying time cut in half. (Rule of thumb only)

first side 95 back side a little lower. If you are aqueous coating you approach much hotter then 95 on the second side and will reopen the first side coating then you will be fighting wet on wet coating and that can turn into expensive brick making.
