Konika Minolta black print out

Does anyone know if it's possible to print a brochure using 2 colors (PMS and black) to print the black/grayscale in true black or grayscale? The grayscale parts of the project prints with a slight tint of magenta.. sometimes it prints with a yellow tint and sometimes, blue.... any ideas on how I can get rid of the tints and still print the PMS color as how it's suppose to look? Thank you in advance!

This may not be simple;

Calibrate before going any further. In the drivers color options, toggle Black Detection, although I doubt it will solve the issue.

You did not mention what file type you are working from. Check your blacks in Acrobat or InDesign - I'm betting you have rgb or cmyk images which only appear black.

Hi pdan :)

Thank you for your response. The "black Detection" has been selected but it still prints the image with a tint of magenta.
The file was oroginally created in InDesign... but I used the PDF to send to the printer...the images were converted to grayscale in Photoshop before importing in InDesign...

First off, yes you are able to do this. But We need to know what sort of controller you have, Fiery, or Creo? This is doable under the drivers expert settings as well. There is a tab for black/grey. Which will allow you to adjust when the machine uses CMYK Black vs Pure Black

Alternatively:

There is a list of calibrations you can do via the machine (I am assuming you are using a c6500 or similar), Ask your tech about the expert adjustment settings on the machine.

You will also want to run your calibration (ether through the Fiery, or Creo). PMS colors are tricky at best to get an exact match. (for this I am assuming your running off a Fiery controller) You might also want try changing the color profile that the Konica uses. Sometimes what happens is, say you rip the file from Indesign (or whatever program), it will use a SWOP color profile, where as the konica may use GRACol (or whatever you have these profiles set as) and you basically get your CMYK values converted twice.

Theres always the possibility you might just need a service call as well.
