UV systems are predominantly used to cure inks & coatings to produce high-quality printed materials with enhanced productivity. In a virtual discussion panel—assembled by AMS Spectral UV—executives from 3-printing companies shared their experiences about how LED UV curing retrofits—done on their own sheetfed & web offset presses—has leveraged increased throughput, quality & job turnaround.

The panel discussed how Spectral UV’s LED UV technology has opened doors to high-margin special effects and expanded production to substrates that are traditionally more difficult to print & dry. The panelists cited how their own LED UV retrofits have increased production throughput 30%, 50% and 100% using the same equipment—cutting turnaround times in half & helping to win new business. Panelists also detailed how LED UV curing has removed variables that compromise consistent quality production.

The lineup of speakers included:
  • Paul DeSantis of ANRO Inc. (West Chester, PA)—specializing in turnkey solutions for corporate printing, direct mail, online print management solutions, fulfillment, graphic design and digital communication services;
  • John Dahlke of VISOgraphic Printing (Addison, IL)—focused on marketing collateral and direct mail;
  • Kent Tucker of Tucker Castleberry (Atlanta, GA)—printing, direct mail and marketing.
Kent Tucker emphasized the immediate buy-in from his press operators. “Our pressmen are not shy. They'll let us know if they're not happy. After a few weeks of having LED, they said, ‘This is a game-changer … our lives are so much easier.’ Our guys are all in. In fact, they're begging us to retrofit our other press for LED or buy a new press. It's been a home run, throughout the plant.”
