Looking to purchase a Versant 3100

This is an old machine (launched in 2017) and a reliable source posted on this forum recently that the 3100 end of support date is end 2026. That may impact your decision and certainly your negotiation power, since five years is the usual minimum expectation from a digital press. Of course that doesn't mean it will stop working on 01/01/27, however you'll be in the territory of difficulty in procuring parts and click costs are only gonna go one way.

Had a look at revoria ec1100 few weeks back, same machine in different outer clothes and a new print controller from fuji, but very matte kind of prints as compared to other machines, ended up buying konica C12000, little higher in price, but good quality prints and improved productivity, hopefully better service than xerox, lower click rates, rated for heavier stocks 450 gsm and lower transistion time between lower gsm paper to higher gsm. you can check and decide, not much of price difference if you buy without an IQ501 unit

The EX-P4100 Fiery sucks because it uses a spindle hard disk and is crazy slow on boot ups, updates, and memory paging (makes command workstation and Acrobat slow). The 3100 engine is pretty easy to work on, but goes through 2nd BTRs and fuser belts like candy. The drum and toner issues have gotten less bad. If you get a great price on a used 3100 and are going the self support route, expect to have supply availability well past 2026 because the parts will still be available as v4100 and v280 parts. My advise is to get something else unless you are getting a REALLY good price and can work on it yourself.
