MetalFX

Is MetalFX used to describe the process of overprinting 4/c onto a metallic ink, or is MetalFX actually a specific ink (i.e. not a Pantone Metallic)?

We have some vendors who claim to have stockpiled the MetalFX proprietary ink, before the company folded. We also have vendors who say MetalFX is merely overprinting CMYK onto a Metallic ink (either dry trap or inline).

Am I dealing with some smoke and mirror here?

MetalFX was (they are no longer in business) a system that over printed CMYK wet trapped onto a Metallic ink. It is not a Pantone metallic. The metallic was a special "receiver" silver ink which is available from Eckart (ECKART Effect Pigments - Excellence in Effect Pigments) or your local ink vendor.

You can contact these guys who have developed their own version: http://color-logic.com/ .

MetalFX were specific (proprietery) inks. The ink formulation was licensed to a few ink vendors as I recall. MetalFX not only described a process along with software and such but the inks themselves were unique.

Hostmann-Steinberg: What is MetalFX®?

it is amazing. you type in the word and you search for it, and just like magic, you can read all about it.

of course, if you use BING, you might discove that MetalFX is a death metal band...

( wink )

just having fun, not trying to be sarcastic here...

WOW, how did you do that? Amazing. Must be some special kind of software you're using.
I thought Bing Crosby was dead. Just like him to refer you to a death metal band though.
