Newsprint on m600

Hello fellow printers, Anyone else here running newsprint on a Goss M600?
We are having a fun time with feedback to pan roller and a real blast going back to gloss work afterwards. @ hour washups and a few days running and I may be able to print a solid but most jobs look like crap.
The news runs "allright" but you really have to work on it for the entire job. Actually scrapping ink off waterpan roller on the fly to keep sheets clean. QTI color control put on manual after initial makeready or the ink keys will max out due to picking of colorbar and it all goes to pot pretty quick.
Any helpful advice would be great
Running sun Chemical inks and unilith fount , press has convertable dampner and sometimes runs better in emode depending on the coverage.

Hello Nova,

Are you running the same Ink for Coated Paper on the Newsprint ?? if so don't !

Coated Paper Inks are to Tacky for Newsprint - this leads to the Newsprint - Linting

1) Feed back into the Dampening System is poor Ink/ Water Balance

We run lower tack inks on longer runs but its not always easy and very time consuming to switch over, there is about 30 lbs of ink in lines between valves to change inks. Also with lower tacks we get alot of splatter that is caused by poor ink / water balance but plates don't clean up.
Told by goss not to run news on press but we all know thats not an option. We also have a m1000 that we do most news on and because of the non contact with the brush system its not a real problem. Before we got the M600 all gloss and news was done on m1000 with very little headaches on changeover.

I have printed with M600 on every possible papers there is. This type of problem occured once when there was a mixup with the fount.
Which Sun inks are you using?

Repeat what Ronson just asked: Which Sun inks are you using?

My guess is your company is getting a really attractive upfront selling price on them (prebates, rebates, all that kind of fufu stuff).

Next, how's your service from Sun? If no one technically has been there yet, you have even bigger problems.

It is the ink companies obligation to assist and help you fix your problems.

It is a unwritten rule, but one that has worked to provide profitabilty to both the printer as well as the ink supplier.

1) Agree, particularly if you do not get the service and applicable product to provide you with the proper performance.

2) Would ask what percentage of work goes from news to coated.

3) Have your ink company do Duke emulsification tests with your current fountain solution. The test should give fount pick up percentages each minute, over a 10 minute point test. Have the ink tech explain the meaning of the test results in relationship to your press runnabilty and trouble issues. If he can't, supply me the test results and I will interpret them for you. Make sure they also submit ph and conductivity of the fountain solution before the test and after the test is run.

5) Maybe no escape, but certainly an opportunity to minimize your problems.

How many units does the press have? If its 5 then place process colours in the last four. Uncouple the inking rollers,run only the dampening system. Use a blank plate and run with your impression on,this will help pick off most of your paper fluff and stop it from going into the other units.
Once the job is complete replace the ink ducts with fresh ink after a wash up.
Also run your alcohol a bit higher than normal as this will help keep the metering rollers cleaner.
