Oki 9650 Question

We just purchased a oki 9650 and love it. My question is has anyone ran any kind of magnetic material thru their unit and if so what weight and what was the quality. Were getting more and more call for short run magnets and hopefully this will work but I would like to get some feed back before we attempt it and ruin something.

Sorry, cant answer your question on magnets, but we too have an OKI C9650, and think it it a great machine for many purposes. Ours is badged as an XPress-On-Demand Production Press from DTP Associates Ltd as we are in the UK, but it is an OKI unit. It's nice to see other printers have these machines and like them! My only grumble with it is that the drums do not last anything like their full life if you want quality prints (espcially the Magenta for some reason), but as we are on a click contract, it's not an issue for us, we just replace the drums when the quality dips. I will keep an eye on this thread however as I would like to know the answer too!

I use the Oki Xpress on demand C96whatever too. Never put any magnetic stock through it though. Trying to find a good 350gsm card to use for business cards, have tried invitation ivory and character. Both are just average. Waht do you guys use for card printing?

I found a lil vid of a laser printing on magnetic paper here:

YouTube - TheMagicTouch Magnetic Paper OKI Colour Laser Printer

I did a quick google and it looks like there are a few magnetic papers for laser printers.

Good luck with that.

I am going to look at a xerox as a replacement for the oki soon.

I'm currently using Claro Silk for business cards. Has a good bulk to it and prints nice too.

We have a couple of Xerox machines (DC12 and 242), which are fine, but for some jobs the OKI has a nicer finish to the print. Both Xerox machines tend to be a bit too glossy in my opinion, but the OKI leaves a nice satin finish.

I have this printer and an older OKI C9800 GA. I use these printers on jobs that I would be affraid to try on my Toshiba 5520C. They've printed on everything I gave them. Well I ruined the c9800 by constantly feeding stock that was 350gsm and over, as well as toner refills, but after changing two drums and a transfer belt everything seems fine.
As for magnetic material, I have never thought about it. I'm interested to know what other users have to say about this.

I have a Xante Ilumina which is a rebadged Oki. Xante told me I needed to update my firmware/driver or whatever and I did. So I tried the a magnetic material called Myriad and the toner scratched off. I think it may have been too hot (cardstock, ultra heavy 3). Then I tried my .030 vehicle magnet material and the toner stuck, but the colors wouldn't register- probably cause it was too thick. That was several months ago. Hadn't messed with it since. But I also heard that I needed to install a new ROM chip or something.

The guys at OKI are very helpful (at least they are in the UK).
They have media specialists who will be able to help you.
