Opinion On Xerox Docucolors with 1MM 2MM and more

We are looking to ad a 2nd machine. We have seen a lot of machines (xerox docucolors 242,252 and 260's) at good prices but the have 1.5 million and 2 million clicks.

We are a little bit leary of high click machines. Most of them are being sold by the users, mostly of closing businesses.

We noticed on our current machine that it even having problems at only 50,000 click and needed xerox to constantly service it.

Really need some feed back and thoughts...as when you are buying these machines on the internet from 800 miles away and they are shipping them to you....you cant run them in person.....it is a bit of a scary thought of getting a dud machine.

We have a DC260 that we've put about 1.3M on. Over the time we've been running it, it's had pretty much every bit of the imaging engine replaced, so it's not like any critical part of that has 1.3 on it. If it's been well maintained, it is possible that the machine will work well.

However there are a helluva lot of parts to these machines and it takes a good technician to keep them working. You have to bear in mind the environment which they came from as well - I was thinking the other day that our machine would now be completely unsuitable for an office environment. The stapler's probably jammed, it doesn't print A4 well (jams at the finisher all the time) and it doesn't feed from the built in trays reliably. These are non-issues for me though, as we don't use any of those features here so I don't ask for them to be fixed.

It could probably be brought up to a good standard again, although that may require a fair few parts and a lot of hours of work. I'd say pay attention to all the transports, they are very possibly hammered after running M's clicks and can be very tricky and time consuming to have replaced - there are plenty of parts in that system that aren't really designed to be worn out and replaced, unlike the imaging engine components which are well documented.

While it's certainly possible to get a decent machine that got M's clicks on it, there's no way in hell I'd buy one over the internet without seeing it first (and checking it thoroughly!) - also bear in mind that if you have a service contract they may charge you big bucks to bring it up to standard and take the machine on.

If it has not been continuously under Xerox service, wouldn't touch it for free. Like a previous comment mentioned, almost everything on the machines would have been replaced one or more times - that's how they are made. Under Service/Certified for Service is the only way to go unless you have a bottomless wallet :D
