Press Problem not matching G7 Proofs

If the solids look 'snowflaked" or 'emulsified' or "orange-peel" I would consider this to be a problem caused by something other than calcium. Perhaps it would be useful to experiment next time you see this by adding a little oil (linseed or tung) to the ink in the rollers in line with the problem and see if it clears up briefly. If this causes the solids to look better, your ink may not be adequately liquid to transfer properly. Another test would be to determine if the plate background is adequately water attractive. Do this by splitting a little water (not FS) on a used plate fresh off of the press. Water in the background should spread out to the point it has no observable thickness. If not, the plate background is repelling water to one extent or another and forcing the pressman into a high ink/high water situation.
